Drilling risers extend from the BOP to the drilling vessel with their primary function being the provision of fluid transfer between the well and the drilling vessel while supporting the choke, kill and auxiliary lines. The riser is also used to guide tools into the well and serves as a running/retrieving string for the BOP.
Marine drilling riser buoyancy (MDRB) assists these operations by providing uplift and reducing the submerged weight of riser joints. BOE offers a unique choice in MDRB, namely Durafloat RIS™ and Durafloat™.
The requirement for ultra-safe modules in deepwater operations led to the creation of the Durafloat Residual Integrity System (RIS). This system minimises the risk of cracking and fracture while delivering high performance duties.
Featuring a high impact protective skin and integrated safety meshing, Durafloat RIS is designed to operate in the most challenging deep and ultra-deepwater environments while sister product, Durafloat, is a cost effective durable MDRB system providing robust, durable performance.
Manufacturing capacity increases
Jim Hamilton, BOE’s international business development director, said: “Bearing in mind the current backlog for drill riser buoyancy, the industry has been crying out for additional high quality manufacturing capacity.
“The significant extra capability installed at our modern manufacturing facility in Aberdeen, combined with the wealth of knowledge and experience of this product and market, has led to a substantial number of orders for Durafloat and Durafloat RIS destined for the GOM, Brazil, India, and West Africa.”
Ancillary products
Thrust collars, strakes, riser impact protection devices, pin and box end protectors are all products that are commonly used alongside MDRB.
BOE has a strong track record in the design and manufacture of these products and would be pleased to discuss project-specific requirements with your team. |
