Measuring some 3x3x9.7m and with a weight of 22.5 tons, three standby mooring buoys were recently despatched to Nigeria.
When approached by a client requiring three specialised submersible mooring buoys, BOE's Manchester sales and design team applied a fresh approach. Rather than reinvent the wheel and create a 'bespoke' solution, a review of existing standard products was undertaken and a solution identified that made use of existing production tooling and components. This allowed the company to produce a cost effective solution in a very short time scale.
David Clayton, sales director, commented: “Why introduce additional costs and engineering resources if, with a bit of creative thinking, the solution is right in front of you?”
Featuring solar powered monitoring and lighting equipment, as well as side ladders and a GRP platform, the buoys are a great example of the level of craftsmanship offered by Balmoral.
Jim Milne personally inspected the buoys before they left Aberdeen and said: “From design through to manufacturing I am really proud of these buoys. They demonstrate the very high level of skill that exists at Balmoral.
“From the smallest steelwork detail to the perfect finish of the modules these buoys are a credit to our team.”
Because of the scale of the finished product, BOE also designed and built unique skids to assist in the transportation of the units. |
