BHOR buoyancy operates in deepwater production environments where it is exposed to high hydrocarbon temperatures. Standard MDRB tolerates temperatures up to 50ºC but through-life performance can suffer through chemical degradation as a result.
BHOR buoyancy also differs from standard MDRB in that its level of continuous long-term high performance is critical. It cannot be maintained, replaced or have performance loss adjusted by the use of tensioners, etc.
BOE developed Supatherm, a macrosphere-free pure syntactic foam, to deliver optimal mechanical performance in temperatures exceeding 90ºC.
The ability to cast Supatherm into large modules of complex shape, which can be site-trimmed to accommodate late design changes, has brought a new dimension to hybrid buoyancy/insulation systems. It is available in three standard grades:
Supatherm 560 Depth rating 1000msw @ 90ºC Supatherm 580 Depth rating 1600msw @ 90ºC Supatherm 610 Depth rating 2000msw @ 90ºC
