Duraguard™ cable and flowline protection Comprising two polyurethane half shells, Duraguard is used to provide 360º protection on surface and subsurface flowlines, umbilicals, hoses and cables.
Providing excellent impact and abrasion resistance, and normally supplied in 1, 1.5 or 2m lengths, Duraguard helps to prevent sand and debris ingress using longitudinal coupling and snag-free fastening.
Applications
Ballast
Using heavy filler materials, densities to 3000kg/m3 can be achieved.
Buoyancy
Hollow microspheres can be added to the mix to reduce density providing uplift in the range 650-800kg/m3.
Impact absorption
Polyurethane is a relatively resilient material which absorbs moderately heavy impact. Reinforced options for extreme environments are available.
Protection
Duraguard protects risers from abrasion or gouging at touchdown points over rough seabeds, coral or rock.
Stiffening
Duraguard provides added stiffness to the cable which is beneficial during laying operations.
Thermal insulation
Lab tests show that a significant increase in insulation performance is achieved when Duraguard is fitted. Installation Duraguard can be fitted prior to or during laying procedures and is installed by placing the two modules around the flowline and banding them into place, usually at 300mm intervals. Adjacent segments with interlocking ends are added to provide a continuous protected length.
