Designed in-house, using advanced FEA software, bend stiffeners provide support to cables or flowlines as they emerge from structures.
Stiffeners are generally installed in dynamic applications and function by allowing a progressive stiffness to the cable or flowline proportional to the angle of departure and tension applied.
The conical shape of the elastomer moulding provides the load transition into the integral end fitting.
Designed in accordance with API 17J - appendix B, BOE bend stiffeners are manufactured in a wide range of marine grade elastomers matched specifically to the environmental and operating conditions.
Balmoral worked in partnership with a major international oil and gas company in the design and development of the industry’s largest ever bend stiffener measuring some 6m in length, 2m in diameter and weighing in at almost 8000kg.
