Cousins Katrina and Kim Taylor from Turriff will be participating in the Edinburgh Marathon on Sunday 23rd May 2010 and raising funds for their chosen charity, Friends of ANCHOR.

Kim and Katrina Taylor

Kim’s story

”This is our first ever marathon, hopefully of many! Originally, we set out to enter a mere 5km race, however this escalated, and now we are running a full 26miles! With neither of us having done any ‘serious’ running before, we certainly are ‘jumping in at the deep end’ but what better way to raise funds for such a great charity!

When people ask us what time we aim to finish in, we always answer.....’I just want to finish!’ Although training is well under way, we both agree that it will be a tough 26 miles, but hopefully the adrenalin and atmosphere on the day will help get us round the course in a respectable time.

We wanted to support Friends of ANCHOR as we have very recently experienced the devastating affects that cancer can have on a family. Katrina’s mum, Helen, was diagnosed with lung cancer 4 years ago, and sadly lost her battle with this cruel disease only a few weeks ago. As a patient of the ANCHOR unit Helen was offered the greatest care and support and it is essential that the staff can continue to do the brilliant work they do.

By donating the money we raise in sponsorship to the charity we know that we will be helping to fund research, fund the purchase of vital equipment and help fund the all important care, comfort and support which is provided for patients and families alike in our local area. Over the years Friends of ANCHOR has comforted and helped relieve some of the pain that this awful disease can cause to so many families, including our own, and we really wanted to help enable the charity to continue to help families in the future. Thank you for your support”.
