The Macaulay runners

A running group from The Macaulay Land Research Institute in Aberdeen are taking part in the Edinburgh Marathon on Sunday 23 May 2010 to raise funds for Friends of ANCHOR.

Alison William’s story
“We are a group of enthusiastic, if slightly mad scientists based at the Macaulay Land Research Institute in Aberdeen. For reasons that nobody can quite remember one of us signed up for the Edinburgh Marathon this May. Running fever quickly set off throughout the Institute and the list of budding marathoners has grown to eight, and two for the half marathon. Despite the winter weather and our long dark nights, enthusiasm for running and carb loading has rarely faded!

As it a first marathon for the majority of the group we thought we should mark the occasion by trying to raise a little money for a worthy cause. A colleague of ours is going through a tough time at the moment with her daughter undergoing treatment for leukaemia at the ANCHOR unit and they would very much like any money we raise to go to Friends of ANCHOR, who support the unit so well.”

The other runners, not pictured, are Rebekka Artz, Andy Taylor, Richard Hewison and Dave Drummond. Half marathoners are Susan Cooksley and Rachel Helliwell. Four others are joining the group to run; they are partners and relatives who don't work at the Institute.
