On the 5th anniversary year of Courage on the Catwalk, we’re excited to reveal an addition to the hugely popular event programme with a fourth show exclusively for MEN.
To announce the news, our chairman James Milne dressed up for the occasion in his Scottish attire, stepped out onto the red carpet and into the limelight.
‘Brave’ will be inaugurated on Friday 5th May, the night before Courage on the Catwalk kicks off at the Beach Ballroom, to recognise the strength of men who have faced the reality of a cancer diagnosis.
This will be the first year that we’ve organised a production that has been open to male applicants and the involvement in the show is expected to be just as popular as its ‘sister’ event, Courage on the Catwalk.
James Milne comments; “For the past four years we’ve seen courageous women inspire and energise rooms full of people at Courage on the Catwalk but this year we think it’s time for men to step into the spotlight too!“
The search is on for 18 men throughout the North-east to take a walk in the spotlight and unite together for what will be an evening of real camaraderie to recognise and celebrate what they have faced and overcome in the fight against cancer.
James Milne continues; “We’re well underway with the plans for the evening itself which will be set in a party atmosphere with an extended live music set after the catwalk show to really inject a sense of celebratory spirit in the pride that will be felt on hearing these 18 stories of bravery and strength.
“The reality of a cancer diagnosis is devastating and sobering but the night will be shining the light on 18 ordinary men who have shown extraordinary bravery in the wake of that diagnosis, past or present. It’ll be recognising what they’ve faced but more than anything it’ll be celebrating what they’ve overcome.”
The fundraising team is looking for men over the age of 16 that have faced different cancer diagnoses, past and present, to apply for the inaugural Brave show.
Brave will bring a fusion of fun, live music, food and drink as well as style and swagger as the 18 male models get suited and booted in clothes from top local retailers across the city to make the evening a night to remember.
Joining the sponsor line-up in the event’s premiere year is James Jamieson Construction as Title Sponsor and Nexen as Gold Sponsor showing their support for North-east cancer care.
As we look forward to the 5th anniversary milestone of Courage on the Catwalk and the new hugely anticipated event, Brave, we’ve set our sights higher than ever before in our fundraising ambition for the event weekend.
This year all the funds raised at both Brave and Courage on the Catwalk will go towards the charity’s newly launched campaign, ‘Dream Big’, which hopes to raise £1m towards the University of Aberdeen’s £4.5 million appeal to bring world-class oncology research to the region.
James Jamieson, Managing Director of James Jamieson Construction – the event’s Title sponsor - comments; “We’re really pleased to be supporting an event in aid of a cause that strikes a chord with so many of us here in the North-east. To be involved in Brave from the very beginning is a complete honour and we’re privileged to play a small part in making the event a special evening.”
An initial release of 50% of the tickets have gone on sale today for the live show which will be held at the Beach Ballroom. To secure your seats at the show please contact the fundraising team.
