Friends of ANCHOR 20for20 school art competition launched
This year, the Aberdeen-based charity Friends of ANCHOR is celebrating 20 years of supporting cancer and haematology patients throughout the North-east of Scotland.
The landmark project for the anniversary year will see 20 decorated anchor sculptures being placed across Aberdeen city and shire, Moray, Orkney and Shetland, creating an ‘Anchor Voyage’. The overall initiative is known as the Friends of ANCHOR 20for20 campaign.
The project includes opportunities for local primary schools and budding young artists to get involved via the 20for20 School Art Competition which is open to all primary schools across the North-east of Scotland.
The charity is seeking designs that have been created collaboratively within each school with the winning school having the opportunity to either decorate the anchor themselves or work with an established artist to translate their artwork onto an anchor.
Chairman of Friends ANCHOR and Managing Director of Balmoral Group, Jim Milne, has supported the production of the anchors and comments: “We are encouraging all primary schools in the ARI catchment area to take part in the 20for20 campaign.
“Youngsters’ creativity and collaboration will bring a very special and memorable aspect to this campaign and we look forward to seeing their designs.”
A sum of £500 will be paid to the winning school as well as a 5% bonus from the value achieved at the auction of their anchor at the end of the campaign. It is hoped that the winning monies will be used by the school’s art department.
