TORPHINS YOUNGSTERS KICK INTO ACTION FOR CHARITY

Budding, young footballers from Torphins Tornados had double whammy of celebrations recently. Not only did they reign victorious in Aberdeen Juvenile Under 12 Football, achieving an impressive, unbeaten record throughout the season, they were also celebrating their fantastic fundraising efforts which saw them raise £800 for Friends of ANCHOR.

Adrian George who runs Torphins Tornedos commented; “The fundraising efforts shown by the team, as well as all the generous support we received from family and friends has been absolutely outstanding.

“This was the first year we’ve embarked on fundraising for a charity. Reflecting on how successful it was and how much we all enjoyed it, we’ve decided that Torphins Tornados will continue this every season, choosing a different charity to benefit from our fundraising efforts each year. Incorporating a charity fundraising element alongside our focus on football will hopefully show the kids the value of supporting worthy causes. Of course, fundraising can also be a lot of fun!”

The generous-hearted youngsters raised the money by taking part in the Run Balmoral event earlier this year alongside some of their parents who joined the race to support their fundraising efforts.  The Under-12’s team chose Friends of ANCHOR – which directly supports cancer patients in the North-east - to benefit from the money raised after someone close to the team sadly lost their Mum to cancer at the beginning of the year.

The money donated in special memory of Shona Watt will go towards Friends of ANCHOR’s commitment to helping get the best possible care, treatment and support for cancer patients in the North-east.
