STRONGMEN ADD STRENGTH TO FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN
STRONGMEN ADD STRENGTH TO FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN
Scotland’s strongest men have put their weight behind a local charity’s fundraising campaign for a second year running.
Organisers of Fraserburgh’s StrongMan competition, William Wright and David Gray, again chose Aberdeen-based charity Friends of ANCHOR to benefit from the £1309.37 raised from the event, following the success of fundraising for us last year.
Murray Motors, title sponsors of the StrongMan competition, hosted the official cheque presentation at their car show room on South Road last Thursday (14th July).Sarah-Jane Milne, PR & Fundraising Manager was there to collect the cheque on behalf of Friends of ANCHOR.
Ten strongmen travelled from across Scotland, from as far as Fort William and Kirkcaldy, to take part in Fraserburgh’s StrongMan competition. There was also special guest appearances from two of Scotland’s strongest men, Ken Nowicki ranked in the top five in the country and Chris Innes (Aka. Goose) Scotland’s number one.
The group of mighty competitors embarked on a range of daring challenges including head press medleys, tyre flips, a ford fiesta lift with a 90kg weight added to it and a cumbersome chain drag. The pinnacle of the competition was the ‘Broch Tomb Stone’ which hadn’t been seen or lifted before. Weighing in at 27.5 stone, the stone was the same weight as those lifted by some of the world’s strongest men last year.
The overall winners for the day were Chris Newlands in first place and Wullie Morrison in second, both from Aberdeen and third place went to Tristan Mann of Fort William.
Co-organiser, Wullie Wright, commented; “We are absolutely delighted with how successful the competition went again this year and the money we raised for Friends of ANCHOR. A lot of individuals and businesses in the Broch really got behind supporting the competition this year which we are really grateful for. Without them the event wouldn’t have been such a great success.
“The crowds who came to watch the event created such a fantastic atmosphere and we’re looking forward to inviting them all back for the third annual Strong Man competition next year!”
From the team at Friends of ANCHOR, congratulations on organising yet another brilliantly succesful event and thank-you for choosing Friends of ANCHOR to benefit from the tremendous sum of money raised for a second year running.
Organisers Wullie and Davie would like to say a massive thanks to;
- Event sponsor Gordon Murray of Murray Motors for the use of the car and his contribution along with the Clansman, Cheers cafe bar and Tavern, and to R. Strachan Fabricators who also made the yoke at very short notice.
- There were also generous donations made by Jack's Fishmerchants, Cycle World, Crimond Post Office, J.A Ritchie Electricians and Heathers B&B. Their generosity has made the event well worth the effort again.
- Thanks also must be extended to all who helped on the day, Fred and Glen Bruce for the boards and the use of the trailer to move the equipment, Steve Evans for the use of the deadliftframe.
- A special mention to Arthur Buchan of Broch Iron Gym who supplied the equipment, t-shirts and trophies.
- Finally to Broch Signs who made banners and printed the t-shirts.
- A final thanks to all the strongmen that took part!
