PARAGON V AND BARBARELLA
Poems from the north east of Scotland by Locker Madden
Locker Madden's second collection of poems, 'Paragon V and Barbarella', evokes the relationship between love, land, sea and the poet's heart. These are sardonic, original and humorous observations of landscape and life in north east Scotland at sea and ashore.

About the author
It is with great sorrow and sadness that we write that Locker Madden passed away at the begining of 2009. He was a remarkable man, very talented, highly intelligent, with a razor sharp mind and a fantastic sense of humour, combined with great compassion and integrity, a true gentleman. He will be missed by all those who had the great pleasure of meeting him, all those who knew him well and by all those who loved him.

Locker had an Irish-Scottish Gaelic ancestry but spent much of his youth on the east coast of Scotland. After twenty-five years in the Royal Navy, he returned to the area. He was then appointed as Head of Careers & Appointments at the University of Aberdeen. until he was forced to retire due to ill health through cancer in 2005. Locker always had a strong affinity with the north east and lived in Peterhead with his wife for many years.
Many of the trawlers, such as Paragon V and Barbarella mentioned in the poems are dead, name-changed, or out of commission; but the region, town, bay and sea all remain as a source of great inspiration and excitement to us all.
Locker wanted all the proceeds from the sale of his poetry books to go to Friends of ANCHOR, as he was a patient of the ANCHOR unit and thought the charity was doing a wonderful job of supporting the unit and vital cancer research projects taking place in Aberdeen.
