Oldmeldrum rocks for charity

Aberdeen-based cancer charity, Friends of ANCHOR, will benefit later this month when Oldmeldrum plays host to four music acts who will be performing live. The ‘Friday Night Live’ event part of the Oldmeldrum Sports celebrations will take place on Friday 18 June at the Oldmeldrum Pleasure Park.

 

Building on the success of last year’s event, which attracted a crowd of 450 people, the Oldmeldrum Sports committee decided to run it again this year.

Starting at 8pm and running until 1am, it promises to be an exciting evening with Scottish folk / rock band, The Lorelei headlining the event. The Chandeliers, a 7 piece outfit who bring their own brand of rock, soul reggae and ska will also take to the stage.  North-east indie rock band, Eskimo Blonde, who have recently returned from gigs in The States will also be performing. Jack Paget, usually part of indie rock band ‘Indian Rope’ will kick off the evening with a solo acoustic set. Tickets for this musical extravaganza are £8 at the door.

Aberdeen-based charity, Friends of ANCHOR, will be holding its annual Gala Golf Event on Thursday 20 of May 2010 at Inchmarlo Golf Club followed by a prize giving ceremony and gala dinner at the Marcliffe Hotel, Spa and Restaurant.

 

£43,895 was raised last year helping the charity to continue to support cancer research projects at the University of Aberdeen and expand its support of the ARI’s ANCHOR unit. Teams comprise of four golfers competing in a Stableford competition over the challenging Inchmarlo course, with the green fees sponsored once more by NORSE Ltd.

Santa visits the ANCHOR unit

Local cancer charity, Friends of ANCHOR, arranged a surprise festive visit for patients at the ANCHOR unit at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary from Santa today (21 Dec 2009).

This year he had a very special helper with him, Scottish star of stage and screen, Elaine C. Smith, who is appearing as the Fairy Godmother in the pantomime, Cinderella, at HM Theatre, Aberdeen.

Hidden behind the red suit and white beard was the charity’s chairman and city business leader, James Milne.

Charity gardens a blooming success

 

dr  mrs bill smith banchory 5 aug 09 close upBanchory couple, Lesley and Bill Smith opened their beautiful garden to the public on Sunday 2 August 2009 as part of the Banchory Horticultural Society Open Gardens Weekend and raised £98.15 for local charity, Friends of ANCHOR. The Society’s weekend event has grown in popularity over the years and this year five gardens and several allotments were on show. Keen horticulturists visiting the gardens made a charitable donation, with the gardeners then choosing their favourite local charity to support. The Smith’s of Station Road, Banchory have transformed their garden since moving in three years ago and were delighted so many people came to see their handiwork and also helped to support their chosen charity, Friends of ANCHOR.

dominique in parisDOMINIQUE’S EPIC CHARITY CYCLE

Dominique Dawson (22) from Cults, Aberdeen, has recently completed a challenging cycle trip from Greenwich in London to the Eiffel Tower in Paris, a total of 310 miles and has raised £2,330 for local charity, Friends of ANCHOR.

Dominique, who works full time in the family business, Finnies the Jewellers, decided to use her pedal power to boost the charity’s funds after close relatives spent time at the ARI’s ANCHOR unit.

Ladies Charity Pamper Night

Ladies are in for a special treat on Wednesday, 17 June 2009, when beauty consultants and complementary therapists will be on hand to deliver make overs and massages at Denmore Park Social Club, Bridge of Don, to help raise funds for local charity, Friends of ANCHOR.

In addition to the pampering sessions, ladies will also have the chance to browse at the wide variety of stalls selling jewellery, handbags, candles and flowers.
