New psychological support service coming soon
Dr. Kirsten Jardine has been appointed by NHS Grampian as a full time clinical psychologist based at the ANCHOR unit. Her position is fully funded by Friends of ANCHOR and she will be in post by the begining of April 2010.
Fiona JD Pearson fund raising manager commented;
"We are delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Jardine and would like to welcome her to the ANCHOR unit. We firmly believe that Dr. Jardine will have a very positive impact on the lives of our patients and their families. She will work as an integral part of the ANCHOR unit medical team, and will offer psychological support to not only patients and their families but also training and support for ANCHOR unit staff.
This new service aims to reduce anxiety, stress and depression and promote a feeling of well-being and caring as well as offering emotional support. Research shows that major life events can greatly benefit from psychological and emotional support over time. Friends of ANCHOR has recognised that there is an urgent need for this type of professional support for individuals, families and friends going through what will be for some the most challenging time of their lives.

Our free chiropody service for all ANCHOR unit patients began in October 2007 with expert Chiropodist and Podiatrist David Gray, MSSCh DipPodMed MBChA.

David visits the ANCHOR unit every Thursday afternoon between 2pm and 4.00pm and treats patients completely free of charge. This is only made possible by the generosity of David's regular clients.
On behalf of all the patients treated so far we would like to say a big thank to David for his dedication and support and thank you to his sponsors.

In June 2008, Helen Young, reflexology and massage therapist, was appointed by the charity. The position is fully funded by Friends of ANCHOR and provides a free professional service for all patients at the ANCHOR unit.
Helen has over fifteen years’ experience in this field and offers therapeutic reflexology and massage sessions adapted specifically for each patient’s needs and administered either at their bedside on the wards or whilst they are receiving treatment at the ANCHOR unit clinics.
The feedback so far has been extremely positive with patients reporting a great sense of calmness and wellbeing after receiving a treatment from Helen which has made them feel less stressed and more relaxed.
Patients wishing to book an appointment with Helen or requiring more information should ask an ANCHOR unit staff member.
